News Update 2
12 Jan 2005
NEWS UPDATE – 12th January 2005.
Dear All,
The latest news (and some requests) from the Friends Of Unawatuna.
- There are now 110 of us registered, all having pledged support and/or donations to the fund!
FUNDRAISING
- Thanks once more, the total raised is now standing at over £18,000! Keep those efforts going – please don’t forget to pass on the website address to friends, family, colleagues, local pubs and clubs etc. The more we raise, the more we can help in Unawatuna.
A few random examples of fundraising activities include:
- The Newark Advertiser group of newspapers who have donated the profits from a day’s sales to the fund, expected to be £10,000 plus. If you live in the Notts/Lincs area please support them by buying a paper!
- Katie Posner is actively encouraging fundraising activities in schools in her area.
- A “5 Rhythms” dance evening in Lewes has raised £295.
- A benefit concert is being arranged at a venue in London – more details to be announced soon.
- A coffee morning and raffle by the residents of Ivington, Herefordshire has raised over £1,000.
- Pupils and staff of the Avenue First School in Norwich have raised over £500.
- Plus of course your many personal donations that continue to come in!
Please email support@friendsofunwatuna.org.ukwith details of any and all fundraising activities that you may be aware of or planning so we can advertise them!
- We are now in touch with several groups, organisations, and individuals in the Unawatuna area who Jake will be meeting next week to get an accurate picture of what the current situation is, and start to develop some firm plans on how we can help in the longer term.
- PHOTO REQUEST: If you have any digital pictures of Unawatuna (before, during, or after the Tsunami) please consider sharing them! We are building up a collection of images which will appear on the web site, but more importantly we may have the opportunity of selling limited usage rights to interested parties, and using the profits to swell the fund (copyright will be retained by you). Please email support@friendsofunawatuna.org.ukif you can help.
