16 Jan 2005

NEWS UPDATE 3 15th January 2005.

Dear All,

More news from the Friends Of Unawatuna…..

FUNDRAISING

· The total raised has increased over the last few days to over £22,000!

· This money is basically all coming from your fundraising activities,

please don’t forget to pass on the website address to friends, family, colleagues, local pubs and clubs etc!!!!!

A few random examples of fundraising activities:

· Kate Posner Has arranged a music gig on Sat 19th February, 8pm, at

NPLS, Oaklands Gate, Northwood, London, HA6 3AA (please see the attached

flyer). All proceeds go towards helping Unawatuna. Maybe we can make this an

excuse to get together again and raise some money at the same time? Stick the

date in your diaries if you are in the South East……

· Helen Pearce Has arranged a charity music event on Tuesday 18th Jan,

all proceeds to the fund.

· The mayor of Telscombe, East Sussex, is promoting the fund and the

plight of Unawatuna/Sri Lanka during coffee mornings and at council meetings.

· The mayor of Southwold, Suffolk, has raised £475 from recently held

coffee mornings.

· Pupils of Stalham Middle School have raised over £400 after seeing

Aleksis on television.

· Charlie Smith and friends have completed a 17 mile sponsored walk with

Wendy Lee and hope to raise £600 to £700. Well done!

· And of course all the many other donations that are still flooding in

thanks!

Please email support@friendsofunwatuna.org.uk with details of any and all

fundraising activities that you may be aware of or planning so we can

advertise them!

NEWS FROM UNAWATUNA:

· Jake is back in Unawatuna as of yesterday. Jamie and Aleksis will be

there next week (all privately funded). Main aims are to meet with our

friends and contacts to discuss how we can help, and try to understand the new

rules and regs that seem to be springing up.

WATCH THE DOCUMENTARY:

· Jake is doing some filming for a Tsunami documentary being produced by

Mentorn, and due to be aired on 26th January on Channel 4 or 5 (we think!).

Mentorn paid for Jake’s travel and also made a substantial contribution to the

fund for the privilege of embarrassing Jake on national TV, so put the date in

your diaries!

LAST CALL FOR TRUSTEES:

· Second and last request for Trustees. We need to finalise the list of

Trustees for the Charity Commission. If ANYBODY out there wishes to put

themselves forward to assume a responsible/accountable position with the fund,

please mail support@friendsofunawatuna.org.uk before Friday 28th Jan.

And finally Thanks, to everybody who has sent in photos Shaun, Kelvin,

Mark, Sian, Dave and Linda, and everyone else. We have a considerable

portfolio now which should be on the new website next week.

Best Regards to everyone,

Jake Zarins

Jamie & Claire Wilkinson

Jon Walter & Tanya Smart.

Tarquin & Tine Desoutter.

In memory of all the Sri Lankans and visitors who lost their lives on 26th December 2004.
