A lot of attention has been focused on this orphange over the last month since its plight was highlighted. It primarily houses babies and infants. The condition of the orphanage prior to the Tsunami was extremely basic, the staff doing their best with very limited resources and poorly maintained facilities. In the immediate aftermath of the Tsunami the children suffered further as attention was diverted to other areas.
Since the arrival of new directors, a superb job has been done of raising awareness, generating funds, and most importantly improving the lives of the the children.
In addition to providing basic supplies in February, including sanitary and hygiene equipment, medical kit, toys, cots, mosquito netting etc, FoU have provided £15,000 to the orphanage which is being used to fund cleaning and repainting of the interior, refurbishment of the kitchens, installation of new sinks in various areas, and installation of a solar power system to provide on demand electricity. Our money will also be used to fund various necessary staff over the next 12 months, including a nurse, Montessori teacher, and trauma counsellor. A sum has also been provided to assist with various medical procedures and on-going costs.
Many other individuals and organisations are supporting the orphanage with items ranging from toys to building work.
