The donation of £10,000 has been increased by £654 by the Newark Advertiser www.newarkadvertiser.co.uk

The Newark Advertiser, a weekly newspaper circulating in Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire, is sending £10,000 to aid the village of Unawatuna on the south coast of Sri Lanka. The money, hopefully to be devoted to a specific project like the building of a new village school, was raised when the Advertiser this week gave 50p for every copy sold to the Friends of Unawatuna appeal. The Advertiser’s editor-in-chief and managing director Mr Roger Parlby said yesterday: “We wanted to give the community of Newark and district an opportunity to support the reconstruction work in Asia and to focus on a particular area like Unawatuna seemed relevant.”
